The best platforms for turning case studies into simulations (2026)

Read this first: we make one of the platforms on this list. That's exactly why you should be sceptical of it — so this comparison names what each competitor does better than we do, and every claim about our own product links to a live demo you can play without signing up, so you can check us against our own copy. If a vendor's list doesn't tell you where they lose, it isn't a comparison — it's an advert with numbering.

Something changed in case-method teaching over the last two years. The written case study — the decision-forcing document business schools have taught from for a century — stopped being the end of the pipeline and became the start of one. A written case can now become a live role-play, a scored simulation, an animated story, a classroom session. Harvard Business Impact and INSEAD have both moved into interactive cases; Fast Company is asking whether AI simulations will replace the case study outright. (Our view: no — they'll make good cases more valuable, because the case becomes the source material for everything else.)

If you're an educator, an L&D lead, or a firm wanting to train on your own material, these are the platforms actually doing this in 2026 — including the option nobody puts on these lists: building it yourself.

1. LiveCase — the focused interactive-case specialist

LiveCase turns a written case into an AI-driven interactive experience: scenes, decision points, character dialogue, scoring and debrief. It's distributed by The Case Centre, integrates with Canvas via LTI, and reports tens of thousands of participants across MBA and executive programmes. Authoring is fast — their pitch is a playable draft from your document in minutes — and pricing is pay-per-participant, in the region of $3.50 a seat for degree programmes and roughly double for corporate use.

Choose LiveCase if: you want one polished, proven interactive-case format with academic distribution behind it. Where it beats us: its Case Centre distribution and participant track record are things a platform launched this year simply doesn't have yet.

2. Forio — the custom-build incumbent

Forio is the establishment choice: custom simulations built in partnership with Harvard Business School, MIT Sloan and Wharton, with their Epicenter platform behind simulations used by millions of learners. These are deep, bespoke, quantitatively rich simulations — closer to commissioned software than self-serve tooling.

Choose Forio if: you have the budget and timeline for a commissioned, publisher-grade simulation and want the pedigree. Where it beats us: depth of bespoke quantitative modelling and two decades of institutional trust. It's a different purchase — closer to hiring a studio than subscribing to one.

3. StratX — the off-the-shelf simulation library

StratX (the Markstrat people) sells established, ready-made strategy and marketing simulations used across executive education. You don't bring your own case — you teach theirs, which are refined, benchmarked, and familiar to faculty worldwide.

Choose StratX if: you want a proven off-the-shelf simulation and don't need it built from your material. Where it beats us: decades of classroom refinement on their titles. The trade-off is the opposite of ours: their content, not yours.

4. INSEAD LiveCases — the premium exclusive

INSEAD publishes its own AI-driven "LiveCases" — interactive cases by INSEAD faculty, sold exclusively through INSEAD Publishing. Around a dozen titles exist, with more coming. It's a signal of where elite institutions think the format is going, more than a platform you can adopt for your own material.

Choose it if: you want to teach INSEAD's interactive titles specifically. It isn't a tool — you can't bring your own cases — but it's important context: the top of the market is betting on this format.

5. Build it yourself — the DLA Piper route

The entry vendors leave off every list. DLA Piper — a top-ten global law firm — built its own generative-AI training simulator in-house, running lawyers through days of simulated pressure with AI-played counterparties. It reportedly works well. It also required a global firm's budget, an internal team, and a year of institutional will.

Choose this if: your training needs are so specific, or your confidentiality constraints so hard, that no vendor fits — and you have the resources of a DLA Piper. For everyone else, the fact that firms this serious are building this proves the demand; the question is whether you need to build to get it.

6. CaseConduit — the suite (that's us)

CaseConduit is built on a different bet from everything above: that the case study is source material for many experiences, not one. One written case becomes ten different simulation formats (boardroom, stakeholder-map negotiation, crisis inbox, courtroom, interview, video call, a live financial model and more), an animated narrated story, a live classroom session with polls and reveals, and research analysis — with an authoring studio for writing publisher-grade cases and teaching notes in the first place. Whichever you pick: the direction of travel is the same across every serious player, from INSEAD to DLA Piper. The case study isn't being replaced. It's being compiled — into things a room full of people can step inside. The platforms differ on how much of that pipeline you get, and whose material it runs on.
